Just registered, thought I may as well! :3
Anyway I was thinking about some maps having somewhere interesting in certain areas (not near bases though) for players to fight over and maybe entice turtle players to come out and fight.
One idea I had was a sort of..."mana pool" from which players can gain additional mana from places, however they must protect it if they wish to keep it~

That idea does sound promising. I definitely support it.
Though, things like this may not be as simple to implement, also to balance out its effect on gameplay.
You see, you could literally "camp" the "resource spot" just like every other place because it gives you an advantage, just like the protection of a castle.

Yeah camping in these places may be an issue, unless they have a time limit, or various ones that stop and start..."moving about" as time goes~

Making those areas harder to defend is the key. To gain something you must sacrifice from the other... that's how balancing works.

If a mapper did something like this, I wouldn't object, if it was done well, but the current maps are not going to have such a thing implemented.

You know, this is a pretty cool idea though. I'll probably implement it in the next map I make. (I already tried something kinda similar in Barren, but a certain someone *coughentris* changed all the mana potions to 1 pointers, making them utterly pointless.)
I know how to, it would just involve a mapspot system, and about 5 - 8 areas of interest in hard to defend areas.
